When you have a garden pool, that’s all you need for adding style to your outdoor space, right? There are as many as 10.4 million residential pools in the USA, and it is safe to say that not all of them are in good condition. Some may actively decrease a home’s value. So, aside from routine maintenance, how can you jazz up your garden pool to add some style to your property?
Pool Fence
Pool fences provide a clear barrier between the pool and the rest of the garden and are lockable for families with children. These don’t have to be the standard wooden fencing that you may see online, and you can opt for glass pool fence installation instead, if you are going for a modern look. On that note, don’t try to install these yourself, as there are safety guidelines that have to be met based on where you live.
Dark Liner
Many people worry that if they put a dark liner in their pool, it will look darker and appear to be a sinkhole. However, the effect is visually striking; the pool will reflect the sky and will absorb the heat of the sun, adding a built-in warming factor.
Decking
For a softer look for both your garden and the pool, why not add some wooden decking? You have to be mindful, though. Stone decking can be slippery, and wooden decking made from wood with a high resin composition can also increase the slip factor.
So, it may be worth looking at composite decking, as this has lower maintenance, less of a slip factor, and is also weatherproof.
Add Planting
A pool surrounded by deep, lush green plants is something akin to paradise, and it adds oodles of style to the setting. Try to avoid shrubs and plants that have berries, as these shed and will require additional cleanup.
As much as it is a good idea to have plants in your garden that feed pollinators, having them around your garden pool is not a good idea. Choose plants like clumping bamboo, Bird of Paradise, and golden cane palm. These are weather-hardy plants that will add a pop of color to the space and don’t require heavy maintenance.
Lighting
A garden can have an immediate facelift if you add lighting to it. This helps to keep the space accessible during those dark winter evenings and is also great for summer evening parties.
When it comes to pool lighting, you have many options. There is an exterior lighting option, such as having a light shining over the pool and brightening the aforementioned decking area. Or, you can have internal pool lighting, which will usually be turned on via a switch inside your house. Either option will add style and safety to your pool and will also look awesome.
Like most things, a garden pool needs regular maintenance to keep it in tip-top condition. Alongside stylish aspects, make sure it is regularly cleaned, that the filters work, and that you also have an all-seasons pool cover.
